Group Program for Restructuring Adult Attachment Relationship: Applied for College Female Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a group program which aimed at restructure to the attachment relationship and to examine its effect. Based on the attachment theory, the program was designed: (1) to reevaluate the client¡¯s inappropriate and rigid internal working model, (2) to explore the origins of the model, and (3) to change the model positively. Two groups of 8 college students participated in this program after they took a counseling class. Over the 8 week period, the students took part in the program for 90 minutes a day once a week. Before and after the program, an adult attachment interview was conducted to evaluate the attachment representation towards the parents of participants. The Relationship Questionnaire of Bartholomew and Horowitz was used to estimate the romantic attachment, and the PBI(The Parental Bonding Instrument) was used to assess the caregiving behaviors which participants experienced in childhood. The crosstab and paired t-test were performed in data analysis. This study revealed no significant effects of this program on the attachment representation towards the parents during childhood. On the other hand, the romantic adult attachment classifications and perceptions about the caregiving behaviors were significantly affected by this program.
